چکیده

Contemporary middleware platforms provide a high degree of flexibility and configurability to support a large class of distributed systems found in a variety of domains, such as avionics, automotive, financials, healthcare and defense. Realizing the quality of service (QoS) properties of these systems requires mapping the domain-specific QoS requirements of these systems to the right set of configuration options of the middleware platforms. This poses a substantial challenge for the system developers who are experts in the domain but not in the middleware. Automated graph transformation techniques provide a promising approach to address these challenges. This paper describes an automated model-driven graph transformation toolchain for QoS Mapping (GT-QMAP) that uses (1) model-driven engineering to capture system QoS requirements at domain-level abstractions, and (2) model transformations to automate the mapping of domainspecific QoS requirements to middleware-specific QoS options. We demonstrate GT-QMAP in the context of a representative NASA distributed system.

A Model-driven QoS mapping tool for QoS-enabled Component Middleware

Although component middleware technologies have raised the level of abstraction by separating configuration mechanisms from the core business logic, application developers still have to map their application QoS policies/requirements onto these mechanisms effectively in order to correctly configure the underlying middleware. In this poster we describe Quality of service pICKER (QUICKER), a mode...

A Translation System for Enabling Flexible and Efficient Deployment of QoS-Aware Applications in Ubiquitous Environments

Ubiquitous Quality of Service(QoS)-aware applications, such as e-business or multimedia delivery are becoming available anywhere anytime. In the past decade, also QoS-oriented middleware services, assisting QoS-aware applications with different aspects of QoS provisions, have been proposed. Assuming the availability of these middleware services, in this paper, we present the application to midd...

POSAML: A visual modeling language for middleware provisioning

Next generation distributed applications are often hosted on heterogeneous platforms including different kinds of middleware. Due to the applications’ growing functional complexity and their multiple quality of service (QoS) requirements, system developers are increasingly facing a substantial number of middleware provisioning challenges, which include configuring, optimizing and validating the...

NetQoPE: A Middleware-based Network QoS Provisioning Engine for Distributed Real-time and Embedded Systems

Developers of distributed real-time and embedded (DRE) systems face challenges in provisioning network quality of service (QoS) properties due to the presence of application flows that require a range of network-level QoS properties, as well as the complexity of specifying perflow network QoS requirements and mapping them to network QoS enforcement mechanisms. This paper describes a QoS-enablin...

Middleware Support for Media Streaming Establishment Driven by User-Oriented QoS Requirements

The requirements for the QoS of distributed applications are traditionally expressed in terms of network oriented or systems oriented parameters. In general, the users of these services are not interested or capable of specifying the QoS of their services in such technical terms. In this paper, we propose modeling and engineering concepts for the mapping of end user QoS onto system and network ...
